Residency visas in Italy: the options

The Italian legal system provides for the possibility of obtaining different types of visas to attract individuals from all over the world. The brochure by Fidinam Italia presents three types of visas that allow investors, talents and wealthy individuals to enter Italy and reside there for a fixed period of time.

Types of visas considered

  • Investor Visa
  • Start-up Visa
  • Elective residence Visa

This type of visa allows residence to non-EU citizens who intend to invest at least € 250.000 in shares capital of an Italian start-up company or donate at least € 1 million to support a public interest project. Investor Visa gives access to a residence permit valid for 2 years, with the possibility to renew it for 3 more years.

To apply for a start-up Visa, a company must be established in Italy following specific requirements and criteria. The residence permit for start-up Visa holders has a duration of 1 year and can be renewed for 2 more years (and a maximum of 2 more).

The elective residence Visa allows entry and residence to Extra-UE citizens who can prove that they have sufficient resources to support themselves independently without engaging in any work activity. This type of visa has a validity of 1 year and can be renewed.
